Wed. 2/28/07 approaching Cape Town South Africa thaw weather is cloudy and the seas rough as predicted. The Indian Ocean is flowing over the Atlantic and clouds and rain are produced. Lecture today by Desmond Tutu, very charismatic speaker who carries hisaudience along with jokes and stories. As chief of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission he was He was instrumental in preventing a blood bath in South Africa. I wonder what he would say about Iraq. Visited the Bridge all automatic and tied to gps. Generators use 16000 gallons of fuel each day to make water and supply airconditioning. The are always a pair of eyes looking for whatever the radar misses. Alarms and firedoors are automatically coordinated. Always carries paper charts to backup the computer. Advance the clocksone hour again tonite these 23 hour days are difficult with all mandatory meetings in addition to the classes.

Mom,

Your typing is much better. Do you have a secretary? It looks like you are finally getting the technology under control. I am not sure if you are reading these comments, but someday you might.

What are your plans for Capetown?
Have you been sick? A lot of your shipmates are complaining about a bug they got in Brazil?

If the classes aren't any good, stock up at a bookstore in Capetown, and just read your way around the world. Sounds like heaven to me.

Love

Gary

it is very interesting to hear about the progress of the boat. how about a little about your progress? have you make any friends? are you lonely at all?
getting enough exercise? any scandals yet? why dont you ask Tutu about Iraq? who do you eat with?
keep up the good writing and give us a call from Capetown.

Glad to hear from you. Hope all is well & your adventures are far exceeding your expectations. We had a great cruise to South America on Silver Wind ... couldn't land at the Falkland Islands, huge 15'+ rollers, force 10 winds, lots of dining rm damage, 2 people hurt. Missed 3 ports! Otherwise, loved cruise. Last week, rented house in Crested Butte, CO, with our family. 6 out of 8 days too much snow, winds, white out conditions to ski. Last 2 days, sunny and perfect. Can't wait to hear more details about your trip. Continue to keep in touch. Love ... Nataly & Toby
